Inspiring Summer Clean Up Testimonial from Mike Myhre

3 Reasons I Quit the Gym and Joined FUEL

I’m not an “exercise-class person”, or at least I didn’t think I was. I like to exercise, and I got myself to the gym 5-6 days a week and I worked hard there. When I got bored or hit a plateau I’d find an exercise program (fad?) online, print it out and bring it with me to the gym. This lone-wolf routine (mostly) worked for me. But my wife had just started FUEL, and was really liking it, and asked me to come with her to a class. It was December, I was a little bored, so I went. Despite my skepticism, I really like it, a lot. But I wasn’t going to quit the gym for one good class. So I tried another class, then another. After three weeks I was hooked. I quit the gym I’d been going to for 10 years, and joined FUEL instead. Here’s why:

Results. For the amount of time I had been putting in at the gym I should have been seeing better results. I tried FUEL as part of their “28 Day Clean-Up Challenge”, meaning a significant reboot to my diet in addition to exercising 5-6 times a week. All the exercise didn’t have to be at FUEL but I liked it so much that I did. The combination of diet and exercise has resulted in:

  • Weight loss of 25 lbs
  • Good cholesterol (HDL) up 13%
  • Bad cholesterol (LDL) down 45%
  • Triglycerides down 38%
  • Blood pressure out of the “high/normal” range and into “low/normal” range

Could I have achieved these results on my own? Possibly, but not likely. The knowledge, structure, and support of the FUEL studio has been crucial to my success. Officially, the “challenge” is over but we are still eating clean and exercising 6 days a week. We feel better, love the results, and feel a level of accountability (in a good-way) to our instructors, each other, and ourselves.

They make working out easy. I’m not saying the workouts are easy—they’re as challenging as you make them. But if “finding the time” is generally a barrier for you, the 60 classes offered a week can take care of that. You have to be at work by 8am? No problem—classes start as early as 5am. You have a baby at home? Several classes have a babysitting option. You like to work out over lunch or at the end of the day? They’ve got that too.

No trial-and-error needed. Before FUEL, I spent a lot of time trying to find the optimal cardio to weight training ratio for my body—and I had mixed results. At FUEL, most often the cardio and weights is combined for the most effective fat-burning, and post-workout burn. Getting fit is a science and this team has it figured out. Each instructor knows how to push you with an ever-changing variety of exercises, equipment, and great music. This is not your mother’s aerobics class.

I hope to see you there.
