welcome new fuel instructor, amy Demers

I am a lifelong Mainer, born and raised in the Portland area. My husband and I recently purchased a home on Plum Island in August of 2024. I’m currently experiencing the best of both worlds, splitting time between Portland and PI. I’m looking forward to exploring the greater Newburyport area more this coming spring and summer.

I spent two and half years at the University of New Hampshire studying Sociology. I ultimately decided to change things up and completed my BA in Communication at the University of Southern Maine.

My husband Mike and I were married in 2002. He brings three grown children to our family and I have a son, Brady (19) who currently attends the University of Maine at Orono. He is a college lacrosse player and often travels to Massachusetts with his teammates for weekend games. I love being a boy mom. When Brady left for college I thought it would be a great idea to get a puppy (my first ever dog). So we welcomed our one year old yellow labrador retriever named Wilson to the family. He is chaos and sheer love all rolled into one.

I recently retired from a near 20 year corporate career where I led a sales team across the US. Prior to that, I worked in the nonprofit sector in philanthropy. I’ve always had a draw towards health and fitness, so I made sure to find the time to fit in teaching classes wherever I could along the way.

I’ve always been lucky enough to be able to walk or ride my bike to the beach; put me anywhere near or on the ocean and I’m a happy girl. I grew up sailing with my family and I’m hoping to find an opportunity to get out on the water here on Plum Island. I also have a passion for interior design so I’ve dabbled in home staging and redesign. My most favorite idea of fun is spending time with my family and friends.

I’m brand new to Fuel. When we moved here, I started researching gyms and fitness studios in the area. I discovered Fuel and immediately knew it was a place I wanted to be a part of so I reached out to Jeanne and Julie to introduce myself and the rest is history. I’m so excited to be here!

Feed me fresh seafood and veggies accompanied by a killer playlist for a dance party and I’ll be smiling for days. I can usually be found flipping back and forth between multiple podcasts (Mel Robbins is currently my most played). When it comes down to values, it’s family first for me. I’m fortunate enough to still see my parents and sister every week. Ideally my glass is always half full!
